The archaeological site of Huchuy Qosqo, is located at the top of the Sacred Valley of the Incas in Cuzco, in the vicinity of the province of Calca, having no vehicular access, is little visited by tourists.
This interesting place, is one of the most important Sacred Valley, Pisac and Ollantaytambo. The set includes platforms, concourses, courtyards, squares, buildings of different magnitude and quality as well as a pedestrian path.
It is possible to visit Huchuy Qosqo in two ways, the first along the inca trail, you see in the photo above from Cusco and Tambomachay. The other way is rising from the Sacred Valley after crossing the Wilcamayo (today Vilcanota) River.
The buildings of the place are very well suited to the rugged Andean topography, roads climb in curved paths and save heights, terraces allow flat areas in the middle of the natural slopes of the mountains.
One of the most attractive buildings of the place is that show, featuring three floors or levels clearly marked, the first two carved stone and the final floor of Earth based on adobones which is still standing despite being homeless for more than 500 years.
In the place we find many evidences of an advanced hydraulic system, water ran by Huchuy Qosqo through canals carved in stone, perfectly assembled between whether to prevent the escape of water.
The construction of the enclosures has a slight incline inward, which guarantees a better performance during earthquakes. Stones are joined each other in wavy lines, this detail would allow better resistance of the wall in seismic events.
The "windows" as seen trapezoidal shape, with less bandwidth at the top and at the bottom may have a stone lintel closes the vain, the height of these openings is between 4 and 5 rows of stones.
One of the features most notable of all is the location set in a staggered fashion following the natural slope of the mountain, the result is of high aesthetic quality.
Another feature is that buildings are built into plazas or courtyards, but without touching each other, so are formed passageways or spaces of transit between the buildings.
Huchuy Qosqo this type of building which is called "Kallanca" that consists of an enclosure of great length, is he has many spuertas towards the Valley. Scholars say that these enclosures had military and social uses, served as a hostel to the troops, and tuner to perform public ceremonies on rainy days.
Finally, the place is very nice, is possible to admire the beautiful landscape of the Sacred Valley, take each space, raising and lowering the terraces, entering each enclosure and see every detail of the whole, all of which leads us to think of the great respect that our elders built, without altering or damaging nature, rather merging your work environmentachieving harmony and unity.
